Giant hogweed is a biennial or perennial herb in the carrot family (Apiaceae) which can grow to 12 feet or more. Its hollow, ridged stems grow 2-4 inches in diameter and have dark reddish-purple blotches. Its large compound leaves can grow up to 5 feet wide. It's white flower heads can grow up to 2 1/2 feet in diameter. This is not just a high-rating plant on the invasives list, it is also VERY DANGEROUS TO HUMANS!!!

You definitely DO NOT want this plant in your backyard. Its stem, leaves and other parts produce a toxin that can cause severe blistering if it comes in contact with your skin, eyes, lips, etc. If you see this plant growing, DO NOT HANDLE IT YOURSELF!! It is THAT dangerous! Instead, contact your municipality who will then take down your particulars and send trained and properly-equipped staff to come and remove all the plant parts.
